In the Hot Seat – Hayley Bignall, of Dreamees
Q1. Have you always been creative?
I’d say so. I’ve always been a doodler and I’ve always been surrounded by different crafts because of my Mum – it was inevitable that I’d end up crafting really!
Q2. What is the first thing you can recall making as a child and who was it for?
The first cross stitch I actually remember finishing was a Watership Down bookmark, when I was about 7, for my reading book at school! And the first cards I made were all Mother’s or Father’s day cards for my parents.
Q3. What did you want to be when you ‘grew up’?
A Forensic Scientist! And then as I began studying at University, a Primary Teacher.
Q4. Why/when did you decide you could make a living out of crafting?
When I sat drawing in a local craft shop after a day at sixth form and a customer said ‘Ooh, that’d make a lovely stamp’ – Until then, I’d never even considered creating my own stamp range but I’m so glad I did.
Q5. Do you have any other hobbies?
I love music. I’d be at a different gig every weekend if I could be!
Q6. What craft item can you not live without?
My hot glue gun.
Q7. If you were stranded on a desert island and could only take 5 items, what would they be – and why?
My phone for all the apps it can hold (including my kindle and music libraries)
Someone to keep me company
My dog Rosie because I’d miss her too much
A colouring book and pencils
And if I’m being practical: a boat!
Q8. What’s your biggest ambition in life?
To be happy.
Q9. What’s been the highlight of your crafting life so far?
Joining the family at Create & Craft – it was my goal when I started Dreamees to share our products and ideas through Create & Craft.
Q10. Any advice for beginners?
Don’t be afraid to experiment with different colours, products and techniques – there are no mistakes in craft!
